At Camp Resilience, we recognize that the face of nonprofits is changing, and we, too, must embrace change and growth to remain relevant to our Veteran and First Responder heroes.
In June, the Board of Directors proactively sought outside expertise from the professional group Interim Executive Solutions, hiring a professional Interim Executive Director to build a strategy to support continuous improvement. Eric Gurna, the Interim Executive Director, began his work in early July. The leadership, staff, and Board are working diligently to move to a reflective and responsive model that regularly reviews its goals, processes, and measures of success while transforming into a highly functional long-term entity. As always, the mission to provide outstanding, quality retreats and support to participants is the beacon that drives the need for continuous improvement.
Camp Resilience saw significant demand for Military, Veteran Couples, and Family retreats this past year. The organization has become nationally recognized for providing outstanding Couples and Family retreats. Couples flew in from OK and TX to revitalize the resiliency of their marital commitment. The organization added a third retreat in October to accommodate more Military and Veteran Families, shoring up their physical, psychological, and emotional health. The team also added a unique wellness retreat for Children of Military Families featuring life skills classes on Internet & Social Media Safety and Bullyproofing & Conflict Resolution by Board of Director alumni and author Dan Fielding.
Under the umbrella of Swim with a Mission, Camp Resilience hosted the hugely successful fourth annual 2024 Green Beret with a Mission Challenge and an inaugural VIP Experience on June 28th and 29th. These signature events provide significant funds to assist with the adminstrative and operational functionality of the organization. More than 300 participants, volunteers and supporters enjoyed the weekend, despite the rainy weather. Teams from Lockheed Martin and Sikorsky traveled from as far away as CA, WA, TX and FL to participate in this exciting event that provides a real life taste of training in the U.S. Army Special Forces.
In this slowing economy, nonprofit fundraising is unstable. The Fundraising Effectiveness Project reported that individual giving fell substantially in the last three years. Camp Resilience continues to see significant increases in lodging and food costs. We are committed to fostering outstanding partnerships that expand the breadth and depth of services. As this new season in our organization emerges, we invite you to support the outstanding retreat programs and celebrate our greatest treasures - Armed Forces personnel, Veterans and First Responders.
